| 表面の説明 | Right-facing draped bust effigy of President Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865), modeled after a photograph by Mathew Brady, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and beard. The legend IN GOD WE TRUST arcs along the upper periphery, while LIBERTY appears in the left field and the date 2009 is positioned in the lower right field. The mint mark S appears below the date, and the engraver's initials VDB are incused on Lincoln's shoulder truncation near the lower rim. |

The 2009 Lincoln cent is a one-year anomaly in modern U.S. coinage — four distinct reverse designs issued simultaneously to mark the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth, the only time the cent has carried multiple reverses in a single calendar year. Congress mandated the return to the original bronze alloy that year, abandoning the copper-plated zinc composition introduced in 1982. The four reverses, designed by different sculptors, depict episodes from Lincoln's life and were produced at both Philadelphia and Denver.
Collector demand was intense enough that the San Francisco Mint struck satin-finish specimen sets as well.
