A horizontal ribbon bearing the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM spans the chief of the shield, while a flowing scroll superimposed across the lower portion of the shield displays the denomination ONE CENT in bold lettering. The arc legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the upper periphery. The designer's initials LB and the engraver's initials JFH appear at the lower left and lower right of the shield respectively. |
