Obverse description Right-facing draped bust portrait of Abraham Lincoln occupies the central field, rendered in high relief after the original design by Victor David Brenner. The legend IN GOD WE TRUST curves along the upper periphery, while the inscription LIBERTY appears to the left of the portrait and the date 2009 with mint mark D is positioned to the lower right. The designer's initials VDB are incused at the base of the bust truncation. The portrait captures Lincoln's characteristic features including his beard, bow tie, and coat with considerable sculptural depth.
