Opmerkingen

Joyce's Super Markets was among hundreds of American grocery chains that issued store-specific paper scrip during the mid-twentieth century, primarily to handle small-change shortages at checkout or to function as promotional currency redeemable only within the issuing store. These fractional cent notes kept customers tethered to a single retailer — you couldn't spend a 1-cent Joyce's chit at the A&P down the street.

Boulder, Colorado examples from regional grocery scrip issuers are modestly scarce simply because few were saved; they were meant to be spent, not collected.
