Obverse description Dark green intaglio on pink underprint. The Dutch-language authority inscription runs across the upper portion of the note, with the denomination rendered in both Dutch text and Chinese characters distributed across the face; a plate letter prefix appears at left. The design is spare and typographic, relying on contrasting script styles rather than pictorial vignettes.
Obverse lettering DE JAPANSCHE REGEERING EEN CENT 府政國帝本日大
(Translation: The Japanese Government One Cent The Japanese Government)
Reverse description Printed in dark green on a plain pale background, the reverse is composed entirely of geometric guilloche work. A large central cartouche encloses an intricate rosette of fine lace-like lathe-work with the numeral "1" at its centre, flanked by floral ornamental fillers; each of the four corners carries the numeral "1" set within a scroll-work roundel, and a dense guilloche border frames the entire composition.
