Japan's military occupation currency for Malaya, Borneo, and the surrounding territories was produced in enormous quantities with little concern for supply control. The 1942 series, which this note belongs to, was printed in Japan and shipped out to occupied territories as a deliberate instrument of economic displacement — existing currency was withdrawn or devalued while this "banana money" was forced into circulation at artificial rates.
No serial numbers, no issuing dates. The absence of both made counterfeiting trivially easy, and Allied forces — principally the OSS — ran deliberate forgery operations to accelerate inflation and undermine Japanese supply chains in the region.
