Obverse description Right-facing effigy of President Jacobus Johannes Fouché, rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail. The bilingual legend 'SUID-AFRIKA' and 'SOUTH AFRICA' flanks the portrait in the upper field, appearing in Afrikaans and English respectively. The date '1976' is positioned below the truncation of the bust. The engraver's initials 'J.B.' appear as part of the legend, attributing the portrait to Jean Baptiste Buisset.

Reverse description Two Cape Sparrows (Passer melanurus) perched on thorny branches occupy the central field, rendered in fine naturalistic detail. A larger bird faces left in the upper portion, while a smaller bird is depicted below and to the right, both shown in profile. The denomination '1 c' appears in large numerals in the upper right field. The engraver's initials 'T.S.' for Tommy Sasseen are inscribed discreetly in the lower exergue area beneath the branches.
