Central device comprises a five-pointed star in high relief set within a rayed sunburst circle, the radiating lines emanating uniformly from the star's base to the inner border of the circle. The field surrounding the central motif carries a full circular Jawi legend in Arabic script, reading the year 1304 and the denomination and issuing authority of Brunei. The coin is struck with a plain inner field and enclosed by a toothed or milled border around the periphery. The overall design is characteristic of late 19th-century colonial-era coinage produced for Malay sultanates, with the star motif serving as the principal heraldic emblem of Brunei. |
