Additional information

Newfoundland maintained its own cent coinage well after Confederation in 1867, a consequence of the colony's stubborn resistance to joining Canada — it would not become a province until 1949. The Royal Mint in London struck these pieces through 1936, with no Canadian mint involvement.

The composition shift in 1929 was driven by postwar changes in bronze alloy sourcing, not any local policy decision.
