Opmerkingen

Furr's Inc. was a grocery and cafeteria chain headquartered in Lubbock that operated across West Texas and New Mexico from the 1930s onward. This scrip was issued to make change within the federal food stamp program — because food stamps were issued in fixed denominations, retailers couldn't easily give change when a purchase fell short, so store-specific fractional scrip like this filled the gap. It was redeemable only at Furr's locations, not federally backed.

The USDA officially prohibited food stamp change scrip in 1981, which brackets the likely period of use fairly tightly.
