Reversbeschreibung A large Neptune's trident occupies the central field, its shaft and three prongs boldly rendered with decorative foliate scrollwork at the base and a crown of laurel-like wreath at the apex of the central tine. A rampant lion is depicted within the body of the trident. The denomination ONE CENT is inscribed in two arching lines to the left and right of the trident, reading around the lower field. The engraver's initials 'PN' appear in small letters to the lower right of the trident shaft. A uniform beaded border frames the entire design.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Barbados gained independence in November 1966 and spent several years operating with Eastern Caribbean Currency Authority coinage before establishing the Central Bank of Barbados in 1972 and issuing its own decimal series the following year. The "heavy version" designation distinguishes this issue from the later reduced-weight planchet adopted in the 1990s, a cost-cutting measure common across the Caribbean as copper prices climbed. The original 3.11g specification was carried through nearly two decades of production before the transition made the earlier strikes retroactively collectible as a distinct type.
