Obverse description The complete national arms of Barbados is rendered in fine relief at the centre of the field, featuring a shield quartered with a bearded fig tree and two Pride of Barbados flowers, supported on the dexter by a dolphin and on the sinister by a pelican. Above the shield rises a helmet and mantling surmounted by a hand grasping two crossed sugarcane stalks as crest. A scroll below the shield bears the national motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY in the legend. The date is divided by the arms, with '19' to the left and '73' to the right, each flanked by a small trident symbol. The legend BARBADOS curves along the lower periphery, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.

Reverse description A large Neptune's trident occupies the central field, its shaft and three prongs boldly rendered with decorative foliate scrollwork at the base and a crown of laurel-like wreath at the apex of the central tine. A rampant lion is depicted within the body of the trident. The denomination ONE CENT is inscribed in two arching lines to the left and right of the trident, reading around the lower field. The engraver's initials 'PN' appear in small letters to the lower right of the trident shaft. A uniform beaded border frames the entire design.
