| 正面描述 | The obverse features the third effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Raphael Maklouf, depicted in right-facing profile wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The portrait is rendered with fine detail against a deeply mirrored proof field. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left rim, with AUSTRALIA curving along the right rim, and the date 1991 positioned at the lower right. | 背面描述 | The reverse presents Stuart Devlin's celebrated design of a feather-tailed glider (Acrobates pygmaeus), the smallest gliding marsupial in the world, depicted in close-up view with its distinctive feather-like tail curving around the left and lower portion of the field. The animal is shown from a near-frontal angle, its elongated snout and prominent whiskers rendered in fine detail against the mirrored proof field. The numeral 1 appears prominently to the upper left of the animal, with Devlin's initials SD incuse below. The overall composition is characteristic of Devlin's naturalistic and dynamic wildlife style. |

The "Masterpieces in Silver" sets were produced by the Royal Australian Mint specifically to preserve denominations already disappearing from everyday use. Australia had eliminated the one and two cent coins from circulation in 1990, meaning this 1991 strike was issued almost immediately after the denomination ceased to exist as a functional currency unit — a silver proof of a coin the public had just stopped handling in copper.
