Additional information

British Honduras had been pegged to the British West Indies dollar since 1949, and by 1954 the colonial currency structure was already showing the strains that would eventually push the territory toward its own independent dollar in 1973. This cent was struck at the Royal Mint in the same year Elizabeth II's effigy began replacing her father's across the full range of colonial bronze issues — a wholesale re-tooling of dies across dozens of dependent territories simultaneously.
