| Obverse description | The George Cross occupies the central field, depicted as a plain four-armed cross with a circular medallion at its centre bearing the image of St. George slaying the dragon, surrounded by a beaded border inscribed with the legend 'FOR GALLANTRY'. Four seahorses are symmetrically disposed around the cross in the field, one at each diagonal position.
