Obverse description The George Cross occupies the central field, depicted as a plain four-armed cross with a circular medallion at its centre bearing the image of St. George slaying the dragon, surrounded by a beaded border inscribed with the legend 'FOR GALLANTRY'. Four seahorses are symmetrically disposed around the cross in the field, one at each diagonal position. The legend 'MALTA' arcs along the upper periphery in large raised letters, and the date '1982' appears in the lower field, all within a continuous beaded border.
