Opmerkingen

Country Fair was a regional convenience store chain based in Erie that issued its own scrip for use at its locations — a practice that sat in a legal gray zone throughout the 1970s as federal regulators periodically revisited whether private trade currency violated U.S. statutes on token money. These notes circulated as promotional currency rather than true fiduciary instruments, redeemable in merchandise rather than cash, which kept them outside the strictest definitions.

The twelve-year window of issue almost certainly reflects multiple print runs with subtle typographic differences between early and late examples — worth examining side by side before assuming two copies are identical.
