BP Bonanza scrip of this type was issued by individual franchise operators, not by BP Canada's corporate structure — Jean-Paul Bégin in Mont-Joli was acting as a local retailer running a promotional scheme, almost certainly in the early 1970s when gasoline price wars and loyalty gimmicks were common across Quebec's highway corridors. The issuer's name printed on the note is the franchise holder, not the oil company itself, a distinction that matters for attribution.

These pieces circulated only within a single service station and have no redemption value outside that original commercial arrangement. Quebec produced a remarkable variety of such petroleum scrip, most of it now uncatalogued.
