| 备注 |
A & Z Foods, Inc. was among the many American retailers and employers who issued their own fractional paper scrip during the Great Depression, when acute shortages of federal coin made small-change transactions genuinely difficult. These private tokens of obligation — not legal tender by any measure — circulated within a closed ecosystem, redeemable only at the issuing business. The practice was technically tolerated rather than sanctioned, and the Treasury moved to suppress it by the mid-1930s as coin supplies stabilized.
No records of A & Z Foods appear to have survived in accessible trade or municipal archives, which makes attribution beyond the printed text speculative.
