Inflation eroded its purchasing power to near zero decades ago, yet the Central Bank has continued issuing it — more as a bookkeeping necessity for price-point completeness than any practical transactional function. Bronze-plated steel replaced solid bronze at some point in the series, a quiet admission that the metal value of a true bronze coin would eventually approach or exceed its face value.
