The Seychelles cent has clung to existence long after most island nations abandoned their lowest denominations as economically pointless. Inflation eroded its purchasing power to near zero decades ago, yet the Central Bank has continued issuing it — more as a bookkeeping necessity for price-point completeness than any practical transactional function. Bronze-plated steel replaced solid bronze at some point in the series, a quiet admission that the metal value of a true bronze coin would eventually approach or exceed its face value.
