| 正面描述 | The State Emblem of Sri Lanka (Armorial Ensign) is depicted in the centre of the coin field. The central motif features a golden lion passant holding a sword, set within a circular roundel surrounded by a petalled floral wreath. Surmounting the roundel is the Dhamma Chakra (Wheel of the Doctrine). Below the central roundel rests a traditional Sinhalese vase of plenty flanked by a pipul leaf on each side, all set upon a decorative platform. The design is rendered in high relief with fine detail characteristic of Royal Mint engraving. |

Sri Lanka's aluminum cent series persisted well past the point of practical utility — by the late 1980s, inflation had rendered the denomination essentially worthless in everyday commerce. The Central Bank continued issuing them largely to maintain the formal decimal structure of the rupee system rather than for any meaningful transactional purpose. Production runs in the final years before discontinuation were accordingly small, minted more for accounting completeness than circulation.
