The "Skull of the Fifth Sun" title draws from Aztec cosmology — specifically the belief that the current world is the fifth attempt at creation, the previous four having been destroyed by jaguars, wind, rain of fire, and flood respectively. Ghana's Bank of Ghana has no cultural or geographical connection to Mesoamerican mythology, making this a purely commercial bullion issue targeting the collector novelty market rather than any sovereign commemorative purpose.
