| Opis rewersu | Full equestrian figure of Saint Constance (San Costanzo), the patron saint of Saluzzo, depicted in armour riding a prancing horse to the right and carrying a lance or staff. The saint wears a plumed helmet and full plate armour, rendered with considerable detail typical of late 15th-century Italian die-engraving. The central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend SANCT. CONSTANTIVS. distributed around the periphery. The irregular flan, characteristic of hammered coinage of the period, is evident at the coin's edges. |

Ludovico II ruled Saluzzo during one of the marquisate's most precarious stretches, caught perpetually between French ambition and Savoyard pressure. His coinage reflects that political tightrope — the cavallotto denomination itself was borrowed from broader Piedmontese monetary practice, an implicit acknowledgment that a minor marquisate on the western Alpine fringe could not afford monetary isolation. The collar variety distinguishes this type from earlier Ludovico issues and likely reflects a deliberate updating of the lord's portrait to match contemporary court fashion.
