| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the arms of Saluzzo, surmounted by an open marquis's crown with decorated arches and pearl finials. The initials F and M flank the shield in the field to left and right respectively, denoting Franciscus Marchio. A circular Latin legend runs around the periphery, reading FRANCISCVS M SALVACIARVM F M, separated by cross and pellet stops. The die-hammered flan displays the characteristic irregular planchet shape typical of early sixteenth-century Italian coinage. |
