Obverse description Cast tin piece of irregular rectangular form featuring a raised double-line inner border framing the central field, within which two Chinese characters are arranged vertically reading from top to bottom: 中 (Zhong, meaning 'middle' or serving as part of the issuer's name) above 仕 (Shi). The stepped, bracket-like projections at each corner and at the centres of the top and bottom edges are characteristic of Bangka Island tin cash production. The characters are rendered in relief in a plain regular script style, set against a flat, unadorned field.

The same stepped corner and edge projections visible on the obverse are present on this face, reflecting the irregular rectangular outline of the cast planchet.
