| Obverse description | Round bronze cash coin with a central square hole framed by a raised inner rim. Four Chinese characters in seal script (篆書) are arranged in cruciform order around the square perforation, reading clockwise from top: 治 (top), 寶 (right), 平 (bottom), 元 (left), forming the legend 治平元寶 (Zhiping Yuanbao). The characters are boldly cast in relief against a flat field, with strong, deliberate strokes characteristic of the zhuanshu seal-script style. A raised outer rim encircles the coin, and the surface bears an aged patina of blue-green verdigris and brown oxidation consistent with long burial. |
