Obverse description Cast bronze cash coin with a central square perforation flanked by four Chinese characters rendered in cursive running script (xingshu). The four-character reign title legend 治平元寶 (Zhiping Yuanbao) is arranged in clockwise reading order: 治 (zhi) at the top, 寶 (bao) to the right, 平 (ping) at the bottom, and 元 (yuan) to the left, each character occupying one quadrant of the coin's broad, flat field. The characters are boldly cast in raised relief with the fluid, abbreviated strokes characteristic of the xingshu style. A plain inner rim borders the square central hole, and a raised outer rim frames the entire design.
