| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by a raised square rim, with four Chinese ideograms in regular script (kaishu) disposed in the four quadrants of the field, reading clockwise from the top: 至 (Zhi), 和 (He), 元 (Yuan), 寶 (Bao). The characters are boldly cast in raised relief with well-defined strokes characteristic of Northern Song regular script calligraphy. A plain outer rim borders the coin, and the flat field between the inner square rim and the outer rim is unadorned. The surface exhibits an attractive olive-brown patina with patches of green cuprite corrosion. |
