The Zhaowu reign lasted exactly forty days. Wu Shifan, grandson of the rebel warlord Wu Sangui, proclaimed the short-lived Great Zhou dynasty in 1678 after his grandfather's death mid-rebellion, and was crushed by Qing forces almost immediately. The cash coinage struck in his name — across multiple mint locations, of which Gong was one — never had any meaningful circulation life, which accounts for the relative frequency of high-grade survivors despite the political catastrophe surrounding their production.
