| Obverse description | Central square hole (cash hole) surrounded by a plain inner rim and a raised outer rim. Four Chinese ideograms in Seal script (zhuanshu) are arranged symmetrically in the four cardinal positions around the central perforation, reading clockwise: 元 (Yuan), 佑 (You), 寶 (Bao), 通 (Tong). The characters are rendered in the ornate, archaic Seal script style characteristic of Northern Song coinage under Emperor Zhezong. The fields between the characters are plain, with no additional marks or symbols visible. |
