Obverse description Central square perforation surrounded by a plain inner rim and an unraised border. Four Chinese characters in Seal script (篆書) are arranged in cruciform reading order around the central hole, reading clockwise: 元 (Yuan), 符 (Fu), 通 (Tong), 寶 (Bao), forming the reign-era inscription 'Yuanfu Tongbao'. The characters are bold and well-defined within the coin's flat field, rendered in the characteristic angular and formal style of Northern Song Seal script coinage. A plain raised rim encircles the entire obverse.
