Two Manchu script characters are disposed to the left and right of the central square hole, reading 'Boo-nan' (ᠪᠣᠣ ᠨᠠᠨ), identifying the issuing mint as the Yunnan provincial mint. The characters are cast in moderate relief against a flat field. The surface displays patination and encrustation consistent with extended circulation. |
