| Obverse description | Central square hole (穿) surrounded by four Chinese characters in regular script (楷書), arranged in the traditional cross pattern reading top-bottom-right-left. The legend 雍正通寶 (Yongzheng Tongbao) is cast in bold relief against a flat field, with 雍 (Yong) at the top, 寶 (Bao) at the bottom, 通 (Tong) to the right, and 正 (Zheng) to the left of the central aperture. The characters display the characteristic angular, well-spaced style of Qing dynasty cash coinage. The coin has a plain raised rim encircling the field. |
