Obverse description Central square hole flanked by four Chinese ideograms arranged in cruciform fashion, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in regular script (kaishu). The four characters 興朝通寶 (Xingchao Tongbao) occupy the cardinal positions around the central perforation, each set within a plain raised rim. The coin surface shows characteristic cast texture with slightly raised character strokes typical of mid-17th century Southern Ming resistance coinage.
