| Obverse description | The obverse presents four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform reading order around a central square hole: 咸 (top), 豐 (right), 通 (bottom), 寶 (left), forming the reign legend 咸豐通寶 (Xianfeng Tongbao). The characters are cast in raised relief within a plain inner rim surrounding the square perforation, and an outer raised rim borders the coin's circumference. The field shows the characteristic flat, unadorned surface typical of Qing dynasty cast cash coinage. |

The characters are rendered in the vertical Manchu script style, flanking the perforation symmetrically. The surrounding field is flat and unadorned, bounded by a plain raised outer rim. |
