Obverse description Cast brass cash coin of the large type, centred on a raised square perforation boss surrounded by a flat inner rim. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are disposed in cruciform arrangement around the central square aperture, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 咸豐通寶 (Xianfeng Tongbao, 'Xianfeng currency'). The characters are rendered in bold, slightly worn relief against a flat field, with no additional decorative elements. A plain raised outer rim borders the coin.
