Obverse description Cast iron cash coin featuring four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform reading order: top to bottom, right to left, around the central square perforation. The legend reads 咸豐通寶 (Xianfeng Tongbao), meaning 'Xianfeng [Emperor's reign] universal currency.' The characters are rendered in relief against a flat field, framed by a raised inner rim surrounding the square hole and a plain outer rim. The overall casting is typical of Qing dynasty provincial iron cash, with slightly irregular surfaces due to the sand-casting technique.
