Obverse description Cast iron cash coin featuring a central square hole framed by a raised inner rim and outer rim. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central perforation, reading top to bottom and right to left: 咸豐通寶 (Xianfeng Tongbao). The calligraphy is boldly rendered in raised relief against a flat field, consistent with the official Board of Revenue style of the Xianfeng reign.
