| Obverse description | Round brass piece with a central square hole, imitating a traditional Chinese cash coin. Four Chinese characters are arranged in the fields around the square hole: 咸 (top), 通 (right), 豐 (bottom), 寶 (left), reading 咸豐通寶 — the reign title of the Xianfeng Emperor (r. 1850–1861) combined with the standard currency designation Tong Bao. The characters are in relief against a finely granulated field, with a raised outer rim. |
