| Obverse description | Round cast bronze cash coin with a central square hole, featuring the two-character inscription 貨泉 (Huoquan, meaning 'commodity money') arranged vertically in the fields to the left and right of the square perforation. The characters are rendered in the decorative 'Bird-Worm' seal script style (chongshu) characteristic of Wang Mang coinage, with the raised legend set against a flat, unadorned field. The coin exhibits the distinctive raised rims on both the outer edge and the inner square hole, a feature associated with the so-called 'biscuit' type (raised-rim variety). The overall fabric is typical of early first-century CE Chinese cast coinage. |
