Obverse description Round cast brass cash coin with a central square hole, displaying the four-character reign title legend 'Tongzhi Tongbao' (同治通寶) arranged in cruciform reading order around the central perforation: top 同, right 通, bottom 寶, left 治. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) and appear weakly struck with softened, poorly defined strokes, consistent with a privately cast counterfeit. The flat field shows irregular surface texture with corrosion pitting and a small chip visible at the rim near the twelve o'clock position.
