| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin with a central square perforation, bearing four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) disposed symmetrically around the central hole in the traditional cross-reading order: top (同 Tong), right (治 Zhi), bottom (寶 Bao), left (通 Tong), together reading 'Tongzhi Tongbao.' The characters are rendered in a clean, official style typical of Qing dynasty board mint coinage, set within a plain inner rim and a raised outer rim. The flat field shows typical casting texture consistent with mid-19th century Chinese provincial mint production. |
