| Reverse description | The reverse presents two Manchu script characters disposed vertically on either side of the central square hole, reading 'Boo Gui' (the Manchu rendering of the mint name for Guizhou). A raised circle appears above the square perforation, serving as a distinctive variety marker for this emission. The legends are flanked by plain inner and outer rims, with a flat field consistent with cast production technique. |

| Additional information |
The Board of Revenue Mint in Guizhou was one of the more peripheral operations in the Qing minting network, producing coins in a province better known for difficult terrain than commercial activity. The "Boo-gui" mint mark identifies Guizhou specifically, and output from this facility during the Tongzhi reign was limited — the province had been severely disrupted by the Miao Rebellion, which raged through Guizhou from the 1850s into the 1870s and periodically interrupted normal administrative functions including coin production.
The circle variety distinguished in Hartill 22.1142 is a minor die feature that collectors use to differentiate among what is otherwise a thin run of issues from this mint.
