Obverse description Round cast brass cash coin featuring a central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), reading clockwise from the top: 天 (Tiān), 啓 (Qǐ), 寶 (Bǎo), 通 (Tōng), forming the reign title legend 天啓通寶 (Tianqi Tongbao). The characters are boldly rendered in raised relief, separated by the inner rim of the square perforation and the raised rims of the coin's circular border. The obverse field shows a patinated surface with verdigris consistent with aged brass. The overall style is characteristic of Ming dynasty imperial cast coinage, with clean, rectilinear strokes typical of official mint production.
