| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin of traditional Chinese round form with a central square hole. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central perforation, read top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 天 (tiān) above, 太 (tài) to the right, 國 (guó) below, and 平 (píng) to the left, forming the reign legend 太平天國 (Taiping Heavenly Kingdom). The characters are bold and well-defined in raised relief within a plain inner and outer raised rim. The field shows the characteristic rough, pitted surface typical of cast coinage of this period. |

| Reverse description | Cast reverse featuring two bold Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) flanking the central square hole, read from right to left: 聖 (shèng) to the right and 寶 (bǎo) to the left, together forming the monetary inscription 聖寶 (Sheng Bao, meaning 'Sacred Currency'). The characters are rendered in raised relief and occupy the full height of the field between the inner and outer rims. The upper and lower fields, above and below the square perforation, are plain and undecorated. The surface retains the typical granular texture of cast brass production. |
