| Descrizione del dritto | Cast copper cash coin with a central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform reading order: top to bottom and right to left. The four-character legend 順天大寶 (Thuận Thiên Đại Bảo) fills the quadrants surrounding the central perforation, with characters occupying the upper-right, lower-right, upper-left, and lower-left fields respectively. The coin presents a broad, flat rim with a raised inner rim bordering the square hole. The surface displays the characteristic green and reddish-brown patina of aged cast bronze, with slightly uneven relief typical of early Vietnamese Lý dynasty coinage. |

Thuận Thiên is the reign title of Lý Thái Tổ, founder of the Lý dynasty, who established Thăng Long — present-day Hanoi — as the imperial capital in 1010. The "Nguyệt" crescent mark on this piece is a die variety distinguishing it from the standard issue; Toda catalogued the base type but the variant designation reflects the ongoing scholarship of Barker, whose work remains the more granular reference for Vietnamese cast coinage.
Cast rather than struck, using the sand-mold method standard to East Asian cash coinage of the period. The Lý court modeled much of its monetary and administrative apparatus on Tang and Song Chinese precedent.
