Obverse description Cast copper cash coin of traditional Chinese square-hole type. Four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion around the central square perforation, reading clockwise from top: 天 (Thiên), 資 (Tư), 元 (Nguyên), 寶 (Bảo), forming the reign era legend 'Thiên Tư Nguyên Bảo'. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) in raised relief within a plain inner rim and an outer raised border. The field shows typical cast surface texture with patination consistent with age.
