| Descrizione del dritto | Round cast copper cash coin featuring a central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion within the field. The inscription 紹豐元寶 (Thiệu Phong Nguyên Bảo) is rendered in seal script, reading top-bottom-right-left in the traditional arrangement. The characters are boldly raised in relief against a flat field, enclosed by a plain inner rim and an outer raised border ring. The overall style is consistent with Vietnamese Trần dynasty cast coinage of the mid-fourteenth century. |

Thiệu Phong was the reign title of Trần Dụ Tông, sixth emperor of the Trần dynasty, whose rule coincided with a period of mounting pressure from the Cham kingdom to the south and accelerating internal decay within the Trần court. Cash coinage of this reign was cast — not struck — using the traditional Chinese-derived square-hole method that Vietnamese mints had employed without fundamental change for centuries. Toda's cataloguing of this type in the late nineteenth century remains the primary reference framework collectors still work from today.
