The Thái Đức reign title belongs to Nguyễn Nhạc, the eldest of the three Tây Sơn brothers whose rebellion dismantled Nguyễn lord control over southern Vietnam in the 1770s. Nguyễn Nhạc proclaimed himself emperor in 1778 and issued coinage under this title through his capital at Quy Nhơn — a regime that controlled much of central Vietnam while simultaneously fighting remnant Nguyễn loyalists to the south and, eventually, tensions with his own brothers to the north.
The dot variety is an unlisted die variant in Barker, which places this piece outside the standard reference framework entirely.
