Obverse description Cast copper cash coin of traditional East Asian form, centred on a raised-rim square perforation. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are disposed in the four quadrants of the field, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 泰 (top), 通 (right), 寶 (bottom), 德 (left), forming the reign-title legend 泰德通寶 (Thái Đức Thông Bảo). The characters are bold and well-defined, surrounded by a plain inner rim bordering the square hole and a raised outer rim encircling the flan. The surface shows characteristic casting texture with a natural verdigris patina.
